Obama fast-tracks approval of 5GW solar and wind projects

The approval process for seven solar and wind projects in four US western states will be fast-tracked as part of President Barack Obama’s “We Can’t Wait” strategy to advance renewable energy development on federal lands.

The “nationally and regionally significant” projects would total about 5GW, the White House says in a statement. It sets expedited target dates for the completion of federal permit and review decisions.

The Office of Management and Budget has been given the task by Obama of “overseeing a government-wide effort to make the permitting and review process for infrastructure projects more efficient and effective, saving time while driving better outcomes for the environment and local communities.”
