Scotland OKs another wind farm rejected at the local level

The Scottish government has overturned another council-level decision to reject an onshore wind farm application, further fueling the inflamed rhetoric between local politicians and Holyrood over the country’s renewables-centric future.

Last year Dumfries and Galloway, the southernmost of Scotland’s 32 council areas, rejected an application for the 11-turbine Glenchamber wind farm put forward by the developer RES, saying it held the potential for a “significant adverse impact” on the local environment and economy.

However, after taking a closer look at the application, a Scottish government inspector has overturned that rejection, saying the 25.3MW project will not result in unacceptable impacts, and is worthwhile in the light of the country’s stretching renewables targets.
