Romney calls on Congress to let US wind tax credit expire

Mitt Romney opposes extension of the wind production tax credit (PTC) beyond this year, a spokesman says, ending recent speculation in political circles that he might permit it to continue for a short period if elected president on 6 November.

Polls show him slightly behind President Barack Obama although within margins of error. The Republican Party will nominate Romney as its candidate at a national convention that starts 27 August. If elected, he would take office 20 January.

“He will allow the wind credit to expire, end the stimulus boondoggles, and create a level playing field on which all sources of energy can compete on their merits,” Shawn McCoy, a spokesman for Romney’s Iowa campaign, tells the Des Moines Register newspaper.
