Australia’s climate change minister has reaffirmed his support for the country’s renewable energy target (RET) as a key plank of its emissions reduction strategy.

The target of a 20% contribution from renewables by 2020 is up for review at the end of the year, with some calling for it to be reduced, or eliminated altogether.

But Greg Combet told delegates at the Clean Energy Council’s (CEC) annual conference in Sydney: “You will all be aware of the misguided calls which have emerged in recent months for the RET to be wound back, or even scrapped, because of the introduction of a carbon price.
