Treasury blamed for making UK power reforms 'unworkable'

The UK government’s planned power market reforms have been criticised as "unworkable" in their present form by a parliamentary committee – which also lays bare the political row raging in London over low-carbon energy policy.

A report by the House of Commons Energy & Climate Change Committee into the UK’s draft Energy Bill says the proposals for electricity market reform (EMR) need reworking in several key areas.

It also laments the role of the UK's Treasury, its finance ministry, in shaping the process, which is supposed to pave the way for massive investment in renewables and a future low-carbon energy mix.
