Renewables orders and sales down in Alstom's first quarter

French power equipment giant Alstom saw orders at its renewables division drop 35% in its 2012 financial first-quarter.

The fall – measured against the same quarter last year – meant Alstom's Renewable Power division booked €214m ($263m) in the April-June period.

Alstom says the unit received orders only from “small hydro and wind projects, mainly in Africa and in Brazil”.

The Renewable Power divison’s sales were 18% lower at €389m “impacted by the absence of significant revenues for large hydro contracts in execution in Latin America during this quarter”.

Alstom Grid fared better, with orders 14% ahead of last year’s first quarter at a shade over €1bn.
