Michigan group seeks to boost state RPS to 25% by 2025

Supporters of expanding Michigan’s renewable portfolio standard (RPS) to 25% by 2025 say they have obtained enough petition signatures to place the proposal before voters on 6 November.

The Midwestern state, home to automakers Chrysler, Ford and General Motors, now requires investor-owned utilities to obtain 10% of their electricity from renewable sources by 2015.

Consumers Energy and DTE Energy say they are at least half-way towards that goal and are in the process of incorporating mainly wind power, with additional small amounts of energy from other renewable sources.

Supporters of Michigan Energy Michigan Jobs , the name of the bipartisan ballot initiative, say they turned in more than 530,000 petition signatures from across the state versus 323,000 required. They Log in to read complete article.
