Tax fears grow as Spain keeps wind and solar waiting

AEE says the sector is eagerly awaiting details of the framework

A government decree setting out the new regulatory framework for Spain’s renewable energy industry is not likely to be published until the next scheduled cabinet meeting on 13 July, wind industry officials say.

An announcement had been expected today. The Spanish wind industry association (AEE) says the sector is eagerly awaiting details of the framework after months of uncertainty that has led to a sharp slowdown in the industry.

“The government is not receiving people from the companies, so we don’t know anything officially,” says a spokesperson.

The AEE says it is “worried” by Spanish press reports that the government is preparing to levy a new tax on power generation.
