Automotive bosses rolling into wind to drive down costs

Gamesa's two most senior recent appointments have a background at the auto division of GKN

The wind industry’s trend towards appointing managers from the automotive industry is gathering speed.

On 29 June, Vestas appointed Jean-Marc Lechêne, former director of Michelin’s heavyweight tyres unit in Europe, as its chief operating officer, with responsibility for manufacturing and sourcing.

The same day, Spain’s Gamesa appointed Xabier Etxeberria to the new role of “business chief executive officer”. Etxeberria comes from the automotive arm of engineering group GKN, where he spent ten years in the Driveline division. Etxeberria was employed by Gamesa’s recently appointed executive chairman Ignacio Martín, who himself worked at GKN and more recently was executive vice-chairman of car industry…
