Dock site gets Scottish cash to gear up for offshore wind

The 53-hectare industrial area in Renfrewshire

The Scottish government has chosen WB Westway, owner of an industrial site 10 miles outside of Glasgow, as the first recipient of money from the £70m ($110m) National Renewables Infrastructure Fund (N-RIF).

The £500,000 grant will support efforts to dredge the dock area, create a navigable channel on the River Cart (a tributary of the River Clyde), and deliver quayside improvements to allow for the manufacture of heavy components used at offshore renewables projects.

The most notable tenant of the 53-hectare industrial area in Renfrewshire is Steel Engineering, which fabricated several P2 wave-energy devices for Pelamis, and intends to diversify into making monopile and jacket foundations for offshore wind farms.
