China Sunergy slips to Q1 loss, expects some relief as costs fall

Module maker China Sunergy expects to increase its margins and boost sales volumes over the coming months, despite ongoing challenging conditions in the global solar market.

The company reported a $9.6m loss for the first quarter of 2012 as weak shipments and low selling prices drove revenues down to $68.5m – a decline of 59% compared with the same period last year.

Average module selling prices fell to $0.86 per watt – two cents higher than predicted, but down substantially from $0.94 in the fourth quarter of 2011.
