EDF renewables sales grow as capacity passes 4GW

The renewables division of French utility EDF saw sales growth of almost 10% in the first quarter of 2012 thanks to new capacity and the sun shining on its solar assets.

EDF Energies Nouvelles (EDF-EN) has added 692MW over the last year in Europe and the US.

By the end of March, EDF-EN’s global installed capacity stood at 4.15GW, of which 3.52GW was wind and 434MW solar. It had 2.1GW under construction.

The extra capacity and “favourable sunlight in all countries where EDF-EN is present” pushed up its sales by 9.5% in the January-March period, compared to the first quarter of 2011.
