Alstom looks offshore as renewables sales get Brazil boost

French industrial giant Alstom increased sales at its Renewable Power division by 4% last year, and named offshore wind as a rare source of likely growth in developed economies.

Alstom’s renewables unit – which includes its hydropower operations – pulled in €2.03bn ($2.7bn) in the 12 months ending March 31.

A 10% increase in sales in South and Central America to €754m was fuelled by large wind and hydro deals in Brazil, says Alstom. The French group opened its first wind equipment plant in Brazil last year.

The company also enjoyed a significant boost to sales in the Middle East and Africa, which rose 67% to €172m, helped by a contract to deliver 54 wind turbines to Ethiopia.
