Enel Green Power (EGP) chief executive Francesco Starace is steering a very big ship through changeable weather, as the company gains increasing momentum as a renewable-energy juggernaut.

Fresh from a year of huge capacity growth that surpassed ambitious targets — 977MW in total, including 887MW of wind — EGP is in the midst of executing another massive raft of projects in the US, Spain, Italy, and Romania.

But 2012 marks the end of a cycle, with the prospects for new projects in Spain and Italy severely curtailed and the production tax credit (PTC) for wind in the US set to expire at the end of the year.
