Hitachi to take over wind turbine venture with Fuji Heavy

Japanese electronics group Hitachi will take over the wind turbine business of Fuji Heavy Industries (FHI), the companies have announced.

Terms of the agreement, to be fulfilled by 1 July, have not yet been finalised.

The two companies co-developed a 2MW wind turbine in 2003 and have delivered 25 of the machines to six projects in Japan.

Hitachi designed and manufactured the generator and control systems for the turbine and FHI designed and manufactured the nacelle, blades and tower.

However Hitachi has had responsibility for selling and installing the turbines, leading to rumours in the industry that it would eventually gain full control of the business.
