Germany’s Enercon has long been an exception among wind turbine manufacturers. While hanging on to a top-five spot in the rankings, Enercon has played by different rules from the rest.

At a time when the big players built up global manufacturing footprints, Enercon pulled out of the US because of a patent dispute, alleging a global espionage plot, and it has stayed out of China.
