Green Street: Germany must act fast to stop an offshore debacle

The offshore wind business was given a massive boost last year by Germany’s decision to sharply increase its targets after deciding to phase out nuclear power.

German-based companies such as REpower, RWE, Siemens and Areva Wind play a central role in the industry, and Germany’s engineering prowess has an important role in underpinning confidence in it.

But Germany could end up causing enormous damage to the industry’s credibility, if the government does not move fast to prevent delays over offshore transmission connections.
