Climate Fund means plenty at stake for renewables in Durban

The GCF is intended to direct money to projects in developing nations

Since the debacle of COP15 in Copenhagen two years ago, the renewables industry has stopped holding its breath over the outcome of the annual UN climate talks.

COP17, currently underway in Durban, will be no different. Indeed, with most of the high-level negotiations devoted to what is likely to be a futile attempt to forge a second commitment period to the Kyoto Protocol, it is difficult for many in the renewables sector to see why they should bother paying attention at all.

Clean energy would, of course, benefit enormously from a global treaty aimed at mitigating climate change.
