Court told of Sinovel 'cash and women' as AMSC man is jailed

Chinese wind turbine giant Sinovel used money and women to persuade an embittered AMSC worker to steal key software code, a court in Austria has heard.

Dejan Karabrasevic, a 38-year-old Serb, was sentenced to one year in jail and a further two years' probation after admitting a charge of fraudulent misuse of data at Klagenfurt district court.

The software engineer was also ordered to pay former employer Windtec – the Austrian subsidiary of US wind turbine technology group AMSC – €200,000 ($270,000) in damages.

The case centres around key elements of the US company's wind-power electronics software code, which AMSC claims Sinovel is using illegally in its 1.5MW turbine.
