If the opponents of government spending, renewable energy and President Obama were to draw up their dream news event, they could have wished for little more.

The dream might have gone like this. The day the President is to give a major speech outlining his plans to create jobs, a high-profile solar manufacturer that happens to be the recipient of more than half a billion dollars in federal financing – one that Obama visited personally and held up as a new economy exemplar – is searched by federal agents after filing for bankruptcy and laying off 1,100 people.
