Meridian gets $408m finance for 420MW Macarthur wind

Meridian Energy has wrapped-up a A$386m ($408m) debt finance package to help build the 420MW Macarthur wind farm in Australia.

New Zealand-based Meridian is developing the A$1bn Macarthur project – billed as the largest wind farm in the Southern Hemisphere – in a 50/50 joint venture with Australian utility AGL.

Meridian secured the debt finance needed for its half from a syndicate led by Australia and New Zealand Banking Group (ANZ).

Macarthur, which is located in the southwest of the state of Victoria, is due for completion in 2013.

The developers have already placed a turbine order for 140 3MW machines with Vestas to power the project.
