UTC faces a challenge if it is to rebuild Clipper as a viable brand in the wind-power industry

US industry giant UTC may have sensible reasons to pull the plug on Clipper’s Britannia offshore turbine project.

Officials from UTC’s Pratt & Whitney Power Systems (PWPS) subsidiary point out that Clipper’s design for a giant 10MW turbine was conceived before they took over the company in late 2010.

They want to bring the technological insight from PWPS’ industrial turbine business and the wider expertise of aerospace giant UTC together before they green-light any new machines.
