warning
on
renewables
comes
in
response
to
Chancellor
Angela
Merkel’s
surprise
decision
to
keep
in
place
a
tax
on
nuclear
fuel-rods
imposed
at
the
beginning
of
the
year.
The
energy
giant
operates
six
nuclear
plants
in
Germany.
The
tax
was
imposed
as
part
of
a
controversial
deal
brokered
last
year,
in
which
nuclear
operators
were
to
help
fund
renewables
deployment
in
exchange
for
being
allowed
to
keep
some
of
their
plants
open
until
2034
–
14
years
longer
than
originally
envisaged.
