SNP seals Scottish election victory on '100% renewable' ticket

The Scottish National Party (SNP) has stormed to victory in Scotland’s election on a campaign ticket that pledges to make the country 100% renewables-powered by the end of the decade.

The SNP and its leader Alex Salmond put renewables and the benefits they can bring to Scotland’s economy at the centre of a campaign that today delivered them a surprise majority in the Scottish Parliament.

By this afternoon the SNP, which previously ran a minority government, had secured 65 of the Edinburgh parliament’s 129 seats with some results still outstanding, following a collapse by the rival Labour and Liberal Democrat parties.
