Deux Côtes a contender in French offshore wind tender

The waters off Le Tréport are included in the largest offshore zone

La Compagnie du Vent, the wind developer owned by GDF Suez Group, confirms to Recharge that its Deux Côtes project off the coast of Le Tréport, Normandy, has been included as the largest of five zones put forward by the French government.

Deux Côtes will be licensed for as much as 750MW of capa­city — larger than a previous proposal for the project, according to Jean-Michel Germa, president of La Compagnie du Vent.

It is a sign the government has put an end to the stop-start approach Paris has been taking towards offshore wind.

The project was first mooted in 2005, but ­rejected by local authorities the following year, made to reapply for a permit in 2007, and eventually forced to move farther out to sea to placate local objectors.
