Tianwei, Wells Fargo join forces to develop US solar projects

Major US bank Wells Fargo and China’s Baoding Tianwei Group have signed a cooperation agreement that could lead to the development and building of solar power products in the US.

Financial terms were not released.

The agreement includes potential financial support for Hawaii-based Hoku Corporation , a subsidiary of Tianwei, which is building a polysilicon manufacturing facility in Pocatello, Idaho. Hoku expects that plant to eventually create 500 jobs in the US.

The deal came in conjunction with a state visit by Chinese President Hu Jintao to the US.

Tianwei claims to have global manufacturing capacity of 500MW each for silicon wafers, photovoltaic cells and PV modules. It also produces polysilicon materials.
