Researchers find pale-coloured turbines may cause a higher incidence of bird and bat strikes



A three-year study in the UK at Loughborough University’s department of electronic and electrical engineering by Chloe Long, James Flint and Paul Lepper, using 11 colour cards, found that insects — a main source of food for the winged creatures — appear to be more attracted to lighter colours such as yellow, white and light grey. Purple proved the least appealing.

It may mean the use of “cloud-coloured” turbines favoured for their ability to blend into the rural skyline need a rethink.
