Scotland 's 2020 renewables target lifted from 50% to 80%

Scottish First Minister Alex Salmond jumped the country’s 2020 renewables target from 50% to 80%, claiming the older target, implemented three years ago, is too modest to create an explosion of green jobs.

“Taking account of the levels of planned investment over the next decade, I believe it is now time to aim higher,” Salmond says.

Salmond, who leads a minority government as head of the Scottish National Party, has increasingly put renewables at the heart of his strategy for economic development.
