US wind market to see strong rebound in 2010

The US wind power sector will see a strong recovery in 2010, after slowing down in 2009, according to a new report by Emerging Energy Research (EER).

New wind capacity additions in 2009 may drop as low as 6.5 gigawatts (GW), 24% lower than 2008’s record level, the report says. But the market will rebound to 9 GW in new capacity in 2010 and 11 GW in new capacity in 2011, EER predicts.

“The US wind industry may post its strongest year ever in 2010 when the incentive-laced economic stimulus begins to show returns and transmission build-out reaches market," says EER Senior Analyst Matthew Kaplan.

The rebound in US wind investments is being supported by a number of key trends.
