DONG gives Walney 2 go-ahead after budget boost

DONG is going ahead with its Walney 2 project as a result of the UK government’s increase in support for offshore wind farms, announced in this week's budget.

Walney 2 will be linked to the Danish company’s Walney 1 offshore wind farm, for which planning has been completed. DONG Energy says the government's decision of temporarily increasing support to two renewable obligation certificates (ROCs) for offshore wind “has provided the foundation on which to commence construction”.

The expected investment in Walney 1 and 2 will total DKr9.7bn ($1.73bn).
