The Japan Renewable Energy Foundation will be launched on 12 September in Tokyo by telecoms entrepreneur Masayoshi Son, who is chairman of SoftBank, the country’s third-biggest mobile-phone operator.
Son has pledged ¥1bn ($13m) to the foundation, which has hired Tomas Kåberger, who has left as director-general of the Swedish Energy Agency to act as its chairman.
About 100 experts have been invited to participate in a conference in Tokyo to launch the foundation.
