Salmond flagged up a number of “significant concerns” about EMR, including whether the UK government’s desire to hold the level of nuclear in the energy mix steady at about 20% is “compatible with other systems of low-carbon generation”.
But the fiercest battle on the horizon regards the extent to which Scotland will be able to continue setting its own incentive levels for renewables technologies once EMR comes into force – a debate that is further complicated by its planned 2014 vote on whether to secede from the UK.
