South Africa intends to hold four tenders on its way to about 3.7GW of wind, PV and concentrating solar power capacity by 2016.

Over the past nine months it has named preferred bidders for the first two tender rounds, totaling 2.5GW of capacity.

Responding to growing concerns about the sluggish pace of its renewables programme, the South African government this week accepted blame for recent delays and announced it will open bidding for its third tender round next month.

Once
