The plan, presented by President Sebastiàn Piñera, acknowledges that the industry faces major hurdles in Chile, including high capital investment, limited financing possibilities, difficulties in transmission and a lack of long-term contracts.

“To increase our supply, we must provide incentives and promote funding for renewable energies,” says Energy Minister Rodrigo Álvarez. “We are proposing a new institutional framework to promote the establishment of these sources and create a long-term strategy for solar, wind, bioenergy, biomass, geothermal, small hydro and wave power.”
