Poland blocked plans to move beyond the EU’s current legally-binding target of a 20% reduction by 2020 compared to 1990 levels, says the UK.

An immediate move to a 30% target for 2020 is strongly supported by major EU members including the UK, France and Germany.

The Environment Council was discussing a recent European Commission 2050 roadmap, which states that a compromise 25% target for 2020 would be consistent with the EU’s goal of achieving an 80% emissions reduction by the middle of the century.
