Sumitomo and International Power – a subsidiary of GDF Suez – are developing two 220MW geothermal plants in the country through a joint venture with Indonesian company Supreme Energy.

State utility PLN has now signed long-term PPAs to buy output from the two plants, in the provinces of West Sumatra and Lampung, says Sumitomo.

The Japanese conglomerate – which joined the venture in 2011 – expects commercial operations to begin at the West Sumatra facility early in 2016, with the second plant following later that year.
