Fluor aims to turn 5GW SA solar park vision into reality

Global engineering and construction giant Fluor will deploy the expertise it has been building across the spectrum of solar technologies to develop a master plan for a 5GW solar park in South Africa.

The company has also announced an engineering services contract from Elecnor for two 50MW concentrating solar power (CSP) projects in Alcazar de San Juan, Spain, following up on Fluor’s work for the Spanish company on the Astexol 2 CSP project.

In South Africa, Fluor will build on a “pre-feasibility study” of the contemplated solar park in the Northern Cape. The effort is being pushed by the Clinton Climate Initiative, part of former US President Bill Clinton’s foundation.
