UK government extends ROC window for offshore projects

The UK government has extended the time window for increased renewable obligation certificate (ROC) support for offshore wind projects until March 2014 in a bid to reach its ambitious targets for the sector.

The announcement was made by Chancellor of the Exchequer Alistair Darling in his pre-budget report. The move means that all projects accredited between up until March 2014 will receive 2 ROCs per MW/h of energy produced. When the government first announced the increase from 1.5 ROCS to 2 ROCS in April, the measure was to have applied only to projects reaching financial closure in the 2009/2010 fiscal year, before falling back to 1.75 ROCS.

The government said that the move would provide an extra £400 m in support for the offshore sector Log in to read complete article.
