UK business lobby slams wind, calls for nuclear push

CBI deputy director-general John Cridland says the UK should "avoid putting too many of our energy eggs in one basket".

The UK’s main business federation, the Confederation of British Industry (CBI), has slammed the government’s renewables policy, saying that it is providing too much support for wind whereas it should be investing more heavily in nuclear and “clean coal”.

The CBI’s criticism, which is spelt out in a new report called “Decision Time”, is a slap in the face for the government, which has tried to get major UK businesses to support its policies through its low carbon business summits and other initiatives.

The CBI says that “current policy is incentivising investments in wind power which will result in too little investment in other forms of low carbon energy, such as nuclear and clean coal”.
