Saudi Arabia sizzling with solar power ambitions

Saudi Arabia plans to develop a world-class solar power industry and expand its use in the kingdom as it bids to become the globe's largest exporter of the low-carbon energy, the nation’s oil minister says.

While not giving precise details on the Saudi’s ambitions to develop solar harvesting sites in the blistering deserts of the Arabian Peninsula, Saudi Oil Minister Ali Naimi says the magnitude of the electricity exports would be equivalent to its oil exports, which he pegged at between 7 million to 8 million barrels of oil per day.
