The strike price – which guarantees generators’ income under the UK’s impending contract-for-difference (CfD) mechanism – is £15/MWh above the proposed starting level for onshore operators on the UK mainland.
The “tailored” strike price applies to Orkney, Shetland and the Western Isles.
UK energy secretary Ed Davey said the strike price reflects “their unique circumstances and potential”, but adds: “Higher strike prices would not be value for money for Scottish consumers or those across the rest of the UK.”
