UK Energy Minister Greg Barker has called in the country’s Serious Organised Crime Agency (Soca) to help tackle gangs mounting cyber-thefts that threaten to cripple the EU’s carbon-trading system.

He has also offered British expertise to help strengthen the security of the Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS) in other EU countries.

The ETS enables companies that exceed their carbon pollution limits to buy allowances from “greener” ones to meet their targets.
