Enviva inks multiyear wood pellet fuel supply deal with E.ON

Maryland-based Enviva will export 240,000 metric tons a year of wood pellets to E.ON in Europe that the investor-owned utility will use as fuel for power generation starting in early 2013.

Financial details were not disclosed. Pellets for the multiyear supply contract will come from Enviva’s production facilities in the southeastern US.

"Demand for clean, renewable resources like our sustainably produced wood pellets continues to grow as energy generators invest in alternatives to traditional fossil fuels," says Enviva chief executive John Keppler.

“Our partnership with E.ON reinforces the economic and environmental benefits achievable from renewable biomass resources in energy production," he adds.
