DOE to fund up to $77.8m for advanced biofuels projects

The US Energy Department will invest up to $77.8m to promote advanced biofuels research and fueling infrastructure that will help support development of a clean sustainable transportation sector.

The funding from the 2009 economic stimulus law is part of DOE’s continued effort to spur creation of the domestic bioindustry while creating jobs.

“Advanced biofuels are crucial to building a clean energy economy,” says Energy Secretary Steven Chu. “By harnessing the power of science and technology, we can bring new biofuels to the market and develop a cleaner and more sustainable transportation sector..”

Two projects to be funded will seek to break down critical barriers to commercialization of algae-based and other advanced biofuels such as green aviation fuels, diesel, and Log in to read complete article.
