Obama administration moves to fund biofuels research

The US government has announced up to $25mn in funding for research and development of technologies and processes to produce biofuels, bioenergy and high-value biobased products.

``These projects will be among many Obama administration investments that will help strengthen our economy and address the climate crisis,’’ Energy Secretary Steven Chu said in a statement.

Chu added: ``A robust biofuels industry – focused on the next generation of biofuels – is critical to reducing greenhouse gas emissions, reducing our addiction to foreign oil and putting Americans back to work.’’

The Energy and Agriculture Departments will fund and oversee projects in three technical areas: feedstocks development; biofuels and biobased products development, and biofuels development analysis.
