GreenHunter gets EPA approval for on-road biodiesel

The Environmental Protection Agency has approved GreenHunter Biofuels’ biodiesel for sale to the US on-road market, the company said.

Company officials told Recharge that EPA approval will significantly improve its nationwide biodiesel distribution capabilities and further diversify risk by expanding sales in multiple markets. Those markets include Europe, Central and South America, and marine traffic in the Gulf of Mexico.

The company, a unit of GreenHunter Energy, operates a 105 million-gallon-a -year biodiesel refinery in Houston, the largest in the country.

Unlike some biodiesel producers, GreenHunter uses only vegetable oils and low-grade animal fats as feedstocks.
