The fire at the Tilbury plant – the UK’s largest dedicated biomass facility – was tackled by 120 officers from Essex Fire and Rescue Service.

The RWE-operated facility was shut down after the fire broke out at 0745 in a hopper storing up to 6,000 tonnes of biomass fuel.
