China turns to GE to cut greenhouse gas emissions

General Electric will supply China with two engines that will be fed by coal mine gas, helping to reduce the amount of methane-rich greenhouse gases that escape from the nation’s coal mines, GE said Tuesday.

The technology has been selected by the Sichuan Coal Group for its Furong project that will utilize the mine gas to generate onsite power for the active mine.

The new alternative energy power plant is located in the town of XunChang, Gongxian County, 40 kilometers from YiBin City, in the Sichuan Province. The units will produce 3.04MW of power and will be in operation in late March.
