Siemens confirms new US wind deal

The Cristal plants use Siemens turbines

Siemens SWT-2.3-108 turbines for the Windthorst 2 plant are produced in the US

Siemens has confirmed a further order in the US state of Texas, this time for 28 of its SWT-2.3-108 turbines for the 67.6MW Windthorst-2 wind farm close to the city of the same name.

Clients are US developer OwnEnergy and a fund managed by Black Rock, to which OwnEnergy a couple of days ago sold a majority stake in Windthorst-2 in a deal first mooted last December.

The order includes a service agreement for the wind park, which is slated to be commissioned in the fall of 2014.

“The installations Siemens supplies for this project are being manufactured at Siemens’ US locations in Iowa and Kansas and secure employment in the country,” says Markus Tacke, chief executive at the company’s Wind Power division.

The German industrial giant only last week had announced an order for the 182MW Panhandle 2 wind project in Carson County, Texas, that will also use its SWT-2.3-108 machines.
