ABB wins $80m Canadian Solar work

Canadian Solar has hired ABB to handle most of the electrical works at the 100MW (AC) PV array it is building for Samsung in Ontario, underscoring the Swiss-Swedish company’s fast-expanding presence in the solar sector.

Canadian Solar, whose successful projects business has seen its market value eclipse larger Chinese manufacturing rivals like Yingli in recent months, is acting as EPC contractor for the 100MW PV portion of Samsung’s Grand Renewable Energy Project.

Under the $80m contract ABB will be responsible for the installation, commissioning and performance-testing of most of the electrical aspects of the project.

Ontario-based construction firm Bondfield will handle the civil works, including foundation design and installation.

“This is a major project for all parties involved,” says Canadian Solar chief executive Shawn Qu.
